Disruption affects the world in general, and every business must reassess its business objectives and strategy during a time of crisis. Clients and stakeholders are the backbones of a company's strategic direction, and providing superior services that allow them to meet their objectives remains a firm's immediate priority. However, what may change is how a company acts upon that strategy to serve clients in meaningful ways and as needs evolve. People will remember what a company did for them during the crisis. Companies need to create hope and craft values-driven messages that are honest, meaningful, and informational.
For the message to meet these criteria, they need to be guided by a company's values. Values are principles that steer the company's decisions and behaviors. When those values are good, they bring benefit- never harm. Good values create stability and trust. Trust is an essential ingredient in servant leadership and is critical in values-driven messaging. Trust provides a foundation for people to follow with confidence and enthusiasm, and in its absence, fear dominates and inhibits productivity and movement.
In addition, corporate responsibility is critical during times of crisis. First, CSR programs have become a competitive advantage because they improve corporate reputation. On top of enhanced reputation, corporations benefit from increased customer and investor loyalty, especially during times of disruption.
