9th September 2020

Okta Virtual Roundtable - 9th September 2020 1

modernising IT

Given its generic nature, the term Modernising IT has come to mean different things to different IT leaders. Equally the motivators behind the varying initiatives can differ from business to business. But there are inevitable common themes which we will explore in today’s Inner Circle Conversations.

Alongside the array of motivations, we will also look at the various challenges that currently either block or slow these paths to modernisation.

In an attempt to overcome some of these challenges we will look at identity’s role in creating a universal foundation on which to build a modernisation strategy both internally and externally within an organisation.

Finally, we’ll explore the notion of managing hybrid environments as one of the realities of the journey towards IT modernisation

Discussion Topics Include:

- What are the challenges you encounter or anticipate in Modernising IT?

- Is compliance or competitiveness what drives the speed of change?

- What effect does the prospect of a potential less-than-perfect upgrade have?

- Is identity a key compenent in your IT Modernisation plans?

- Can you support the latest identity protocols in web and mobile apps, enhancing the user experience and driving adoption?

- How are you deciding which applications should move to the cloud?

- Is capital, talent or resources the greatest barrier to IT Modernisation?

Modern Infrastructure and Development: Using Identity to Scale for Tomorrow’s Technology

As a result of groundbreaking technological advances over the past 20 years, we’ve witnessed a massive shift in the way businesses are operated. What began as a quest to supplement brick and mortar with a digital storefront is now a customer experience-driven crusade to be the most innovative, the most agile, and the most accessible. This new reality means that in order to be a leader in the twenty-first century, you must also be a digital leader.

Top 8 Identity and Access Management Challenges with Your SaaS Applications

The enterprise cloud revolution is here. IT organizations everywhere, from small and mid-sized businesses to Fortune 500 companies, are moving from on-premises software to on-demand, cloud-based services. As enterprise IT makes this transition to a new hybrid on demand/on-premises configuration, controlling who is granted access to which applications becomes increasingly important. This presents CIOs and their teams with a whole new set of identity management challenges. In addition, users must keep track of multiple URLs, user names, and passwords to get access to their applications. IT’s role is also fundamentally changing. As the steward of these new services, IT must provide insight and advice about Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products to ensure the company is maximizing the business value of their investments.

IT Modernization Motivators, Challenges and Identity’s Role

IDG recently surveyed IT decision-makers to understand their priorities for the next 12 months. It’s not surprising that the top three priorities included modernize IT, protect against security breaches, and move to cloud- and mobile-first strategy.

3 Reasons for Choosing Cloud-first Identity for Hybrid Environments

In order to stay competitive and reduce costs, smart enterprises are constantly on the hunt for disruptive ways to leverage technology. They’re moving towards hybrid IT environments because they recognize the benefits of faster implementations and high cost savings that come with moving from on-premises to cloud-based applications and infrastructure. Although many businesses are in the process of moving as much as they can to the cloud, IDC estimates that 70% of large enterprise workloads still run in on-premises data centers. The popularity of best-of-breed apps (such as Office 365, Salesforce, Slack, and so on), paired with the reality of on-prem systems that aren’t going away any time soon, contribute to complex hybrid IT environments that are challenging to secure.

Driving Innovation with Architectural Excellence

Today’s organizations are under a lot of pressure. Not only do they need to provide innovative technology solutions, but they also need to ensure these solutions evolve with changing customer needs—and that means having excellent architecture. However, in the neverending push to develop new, marketable product features, many companies don’t pay enough attention to their technology architecture, a strategy that hurts them in the long run.

Moving to the Cloud? Okta Gets You There Quickly and Safely

According to IDC, cloud spend is out-pacing non-cloud spend by 8x. The same report estimates that half a trillion dollars will be spent on cloud hardware, software and services by 2020. It’s clear that almost every organization on the planet is on a cloud journey of some sort, as Gartner predicts that 75% of them will have deployed a multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud model for IT by 2020.

Modernize Your Tech Stack Starting with Identity

The API economy is booming, and with the rise of in-house applications that require data exchanges between companies, app developers are increasingly burdened with home-grown solutions, monolithic architecture, and on-prem complexities.

Adding to the challenges of creating modern digital experiences is securing them; data can become exposed, costing companies millions. The answer is application modernization.
